Privacy & Security

Core Philosophy

Notably is built on a privacy-first foundation. By default everything happens on your device. Notably Cloud is an optional, opt-in feature that adds server-side transcription (see the full Privacy Policy).

  • ✓ Recordings and transcriptions are processed on your Mac by default
  • ✓ Your data stays on-device unless you opt in to Notably Cloud
  • ✓ No login or registration required for local use
  • ✓ Complete functionality after initial model download

What Stays Local by Default

With local transcription, everything stays on your Mac:

  • • Audio files stay on your Mac unless you choose cloud transcription
  • • Text generated and stored locally
  • • AI models downloaded and run locally
  • • SQLite database stored locally

~/Library/Application Support/io.binarygap.notably/

No Network Required for Local Use

Once your transcription models are downloaded, local transcription works fully offline. No internet connection is needed for:

  • • Recording audio
  • • Transcribing recordings with local models
  • • Viewing and managing your data
  • • Exporting transcriptions

Optional Telemetry

Telemetry is opt-in only and completely disabled when you first install Notably.

You can optionally enable anonymous usage statistics to help improve Notably. If enabled, we collect:

What We Collect

  • • Randomly generated identifier, not linked to you
  • • Recording started/stopped, transcription completed, settings changed
  • • App version, platform, OS version
  • • Error logs to fix bugs (via Sentry)

What We Never Collect

  • ✗ Recording audio (uploaded only if you choose Notably Cloud transcription)
  • ✗ Transcription text or meeting content
  • ✗ Names or personal identifiers (email only with a Notably Cloud account)
  • ✗ IP addresses, location data, or tracking cookies

Managing Telemetry

Disable Telemetry

  1. 1. Open Settings (⌘,)
  2. 2. Go to General tab
  3. 3. Toggle "Enable Telemetry" off

View Your Anonymous ID

Your randomly generated user ID is displayed in Settings → General. This ID cannot be linked back to you or your device.

Deleting Your Data

Delete Local Data

  1. 1. Uninstall Notably
  2. 2. Delete the application support folder:
~/Library/Application Support/io.binarygap.notably/

Delete Telemetry Data

If you use Notably Cloud, you can delete your account and server-side data from within the app. For anonymous analytics data, contact [email protected] with your user ID.
